Strong Second Half Powers Buffs to Home Win

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball used a dominant second half to defeat the Adams State Grizzlies 112-76 on Thursday afternoon in Canyon. With the win, the Buffs improve to 5-0 on the season.

The Leaders
Five Buffs reached double-digit scoring on Friday night led by a game-high 20 from Ahamed Mohammed. Noah Pagotto (19), Amir McMillian (16) Jailyn Sledge (16), and Kemper Jones (11) also ended their day in double figures. Mohammed recorded his third-career double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds while McMillian dished out seven assists.

How It Happened
WT opened the scoring 25 seconds in before Adams State tied the game a few possessions later. A 9-0 run restored the Buffs' lead at 13-4 ahead of the under-16 media timeout. Although the Grizzlies looked to cut down the WT lead, the Buffs remained in control by double digits. WT's lead reached as high as 15 with 7:44 to play in the half. Before the period came to a close, a 10-2 streak from Adams State sent the teams into halftime with the Buffs leading by five.

After regrouping at halftime, WT started the second half strong, opening the half with a 13-point streak to put the lead at 18. Despite an Adams State bucket, the Buffs continued to build on the lead to put a 20-point difference between the teams. With control on the floor, WT slowed the pace while maintaining efficiency on the attacking side of the court. With 3:40 to play, McMillian knocked down a jumper to put the Buffs over the century mark. WT's lead reached a game-high 40 with a minute to play, but a pair of baskets in the final 57 seconds capped the scoring.

The Buffs kick off Lone Star Conference play on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Eastern New Mexico. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Central at the Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena.
