No. 2 Buffs Cruise to 103-73 Victory

SILVER CITY, N.M. – On Thursday night, West Texas A&M men's basketball defeated the Mustangs of Western New Mexico 103-73 as 12 Buffs scored in the road win. The Buffs extend their win streak to 12 games and improve their record to 15-1 overall and 9-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Leaders
Four Buffs reached double-digit scoring on Thursday night highlighted by Larry Wise's game-high 23 points. Kieran Elliott (17), Ryland Holt (10), and Brock Mishak (10) also finished their night in double figures. Wise also brought in a game-high eight rebounds to go along with four assists.

How It Happened
The Buffs opened the game on an 11-3 run to force an early Mustangs' timeout. After the timeout, Western New Mexico cut the lead down, but WT still sat in front at the first media timeout of the game. Before the under-12-minute media timeout, the Mustangs brought the game back within three before a Noah Pagotto free throw made it a four-point lead. As WNMU closed in, the Buffs rattled off a 12-0 run to extend the lead back to double digits. Throughout the remainder of the first half, WT continued to control the pace, taking a 15-point lead into halftime.

To open the second half, the two teams went back-and forth, exchanging buckets in the opening minutes. When the Mustangs looked to gain momentum and cut into the lead, the Buffs continued to score and play stiff defense. WT eventually extended its lead to 24 points midway through the second half. The Buffs continued to cruise throughout the second half. With 2:47 remaining, Nicholas Jett knocked down a shot from behind the arc to give WT its 146th 100-point game in program history and third this season.
