Buffs Announce Signing of Kelson Jones

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball coach Tom Brown announced the signing of local product Kelson Jones on Thursday. Jones, a senior at Canyon High School, signs his National Letter of Intent to join the Buffs for the 2024-25 season.

Currently, Jones averages 14 points for the Eagles with 6.5 rebounds and two blocks per game.

"Kelson's enthusiastic personality and willingness to do whatever the team needs to win is what makes him special'" said BYC AAU Basketball Director Austin Turner. "At 6'7" he provides rim protection on the defensive end and can rebound with the best of them. Excited to watch him continue to blossom with the WT program!"

"Kelson has been such a valuable piece of our program here at Canyon High for the past 4 years. He's been a varsity contributor since his sophomore year and has been an integral piece to our success. Kelson is one of those guys that you love to coach each and every day because he has such a great attitude and work ethic' added Canyon High head coach Travis Schulte. "It's been awesome having a front row seat to watch his development as a player and as an outstanding young man, and now we're blessed that we get to continue seeing him grow right here in our backyard!"

"It is always special to get a local player. Kelson is as local as you can get playing at Canyon High School. He is someone that has continually improved over the years and at times has been a force both on offense and defense," concluded Brown. "Kelson plays mostly in the pivot, but we feel he will develop the skills necessary to play on the perimeter as well.  He does have great length/size and moves very well. If he really commits to our strength and conditioning program, he could be a real force in the coming years.  We are very excited to add Kelson Jones to our program!"
