CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M softball team extended its win streak to 14 games with two wins over the Falcons of UT Permian Basin. The Lady Buffs improved to 14-0 on the season and 5-0 in Lone Star Conference play.
WT looks for the series sweep at 10 a.m. on Sunday after the game was moved up due to the forecast of high winds.

The Lady Buffs scored first in the bottom of the second as
Diana Murtha started the inning with a triple. Following a
Gabriella Valforte walk,
Gabie McConnell singled to center.
Lauren Granger reached on a fielder's choice as
Megan Guericke came around to score before the Falcons could convert the double play.
Brittni Rufus capped off the inning with an inside-the-park home run without a throw to the plate.
After WT loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth,
Ruby Salzman brought in Granger and Rufus. Salzman singled to center, but a misplay by the center fielder allowed
Madison Johnson to come around score, clearing the bases.
The Lady Buffs needed just five pitches in the bottom of the fifth to end the game. Murtha's double on a 2-2 count set up Valforte's double to left center, scoring Murtha.

WT carried its momentum over from game one into game two, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. The inning started with a walk by Johnson and singles by Salzman and
Emilee Boyer. After an out, Granger singled up the middle to score Johnson and Salzman. On the next batter,
Julie Guzman singled into right field to set up McConnell's sacrifice fly.
The Lady Buffs added three more an inning later after Rufus singled to start the order. After a stolen base and groundout, the junior outfielder found her way to third base. Rufus didn't have to wait long to score as Salzman lined a home run over the left field wall. Later in the inning, a single and a pair of walks loaded the bases ang brought up McConnell with two outs. McConnell forced in a run, drawing a walk and extending the lead to 6-0.
In the bottom of the third, WT took advantage of five walks by the Falcon pitching staff. While batting, the Lady Buffs scored five runs on just three hits. UTPB escaped the inning on a foul out to third base.
WT continued their offensive explosion with five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth. The inning started with a
Riley Stiner walk and an
Emilee Boyer hit by pitch.
Heaven Moreno followed by grounding out to first base, but the Falcons' attempt to turn a double play ended with a throw into left field. The error allowed Stiner to complete her trip around the bases and score easily. Granger's RBI single to right brought in Boyer before Granger scored on
Maddie Geidel's triple.
Nikki Warren registered her first RBI of the series after reaching on an error by the UTPB shortstop, scoring on
Ruby Moore's single.
In the top of the fifth,
Emma Parrish kept the shutout with a pair of strikeouts and a line out to Salzman in center.
