Keehn’s Complete Game Shutout Highlights a Saturday Split in Austin

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M senior right-hander Isaac Keehn tossed a complete game shutout on Saturday afternoon as the Buffaloes split a Lone Star Conference doubleheader with the #15 St. Edward's Hilltoppers at Lucian-Hamilton Field in Austin, Texas.

The Buffs and Hilltoppers close out the series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of the finale set for 1 p.m. in Austin.

GAME ONE
Saturday' opening game of the doubleheader saw a classic pitcher's duel as WT's Isaac Keehn and SEU's Jack Granack allowed eight combined hits over the first six frames in a scoreless ballgame.

The Buffs would push across the game's first run with two outs in the seventh as Patrick Donovan singled home Paul Wittmann, WT added another as they took advantage of a Hilltopper throwing error to score Donovan for the 2-0 lead.

Keehn finished off the complete game shutout in the home half with a strikeout and a pair of ground balls to move to 2-1 on the season, allowing no runs on four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts in the victory.

GAME TWO
St. Edward's plated their first run of the afternoon in the home half of the second inning as Carlo Figueroa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs to plate Hunter Conner to make it 1-0. The Buffs would respond in the top of the fifth as Dylan Fesperman roped a pinch-hit RBI double to the gap in right center to score Seth Ochoa and tie it at 1-1.

The Hilltoppers answered in the bottom of the fifth with a Luke Johnson three-run homerun to left field with one out followed later in the frame by RBI singles from Weston Symes and Figueroa and a Kyler Kerlin RBI double to make it 7-1.

SEU added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth as Johnson scored on a wild pitch with no outs to make it 8-1.

Reese Miller picked up the loss (1-1) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing five earned runs on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in his 4.1 innings of work.
