Men's Basketball Dominates Western New Mexico, 91-66

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball completed a season sweep of Western New Mexico by defeating the Mustangs 91-66 in Silver City. The win keeps the Buffs atop the Lone Star Conference standings with a record of 18-6 overall and 16-2 in conference action.

The Leaders
Five Buffs reached double figures led by Julius Brown's 17 points to go along with four assists and five steals. Larry Wise (16), Zach Toussaint (14), Ryland Holt (12), and Damion Thornton each eclipsed the 10-point mark. Jesse Iweze paced WT with six rebounds.

How It Happened
Offense between the Buffs and Mustangs got off to a slow start in Silver City. At the first media timeout of the day, WT held onto a slim 9-6 lead. The Buffs eventually extended their lead to double digits, only to have it cut down by the Mustangs. As the WT offense started to heat up, the WNMU offense cooled off. The Buffs capped off an offensive first half with a bang as Toussaint nailed a three-pointer from the WT side of half-court.

After leading 51-28 at halftime, the Buffs quickly stretched their advantage to 30 points. As the second half went on, WT continued to expand its lead and hold the Mustangs quiet. The Buff lead reached 40 three times in the second half including with 5:05 to play in regulation. Although the game was out of reach, WNMU didn't go away without a fight as the Mustangs brought the WT lead down to 25 with 24 seconds to go. The WNMU run to end the game proved to be too little, too late as the Buffs won 91-66.
