CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball coach
Tom Brown announced the signing of local product Jailyn Sledge on Wednesday as part of National Signing Day. Sledge is currently a senior at Tascosa High School in Amarillo.
In his junior campaign, Sledge averaged 20.3 points, 11 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks per game.
"Jailyn is a great example of the results of hard work and dedication" said Tascosa head coach Steve Jackson. "The growth he has experienced as a player and a person throughout his time at Tascosa has been exponential. Jailyn sets high expectations for himself both on the court and in the classroom and has proven that he will do what it takes to meet them. He never hesitates to go above and beyond the call of duty to help his family, his teammates, or his classmates. He is one of the diligent and determined kids that I have had the opportunity to coach."
"Jailyn Sledge is a great young man with a really bright future" Brown added. "He is someone that will excel here at WT in the classroom and on the court. He is a high academic student-athlete who we have followed for a long time. We are very excited to have him join our program. Jailyn is a great example of what a true student-athlete is all about. He picks up on the little things very quickly and is going to be an outstanding addition to the program!"
Sledge's BYC Elite Basketball coach Austin Turner also said "We're excited that Jailyn has chosen to stay home and continue his education and basketball career at a powerhouse program in our backyard. I have always known that he was a next level player, with a bright future both on and off the basketball court. We're looking forward to watching him play next year at WT and thankful that he will continue to be a leader in our community."
