Late Surge Lifts the Lady Buffs to an Overtime Victory at UAFS, 81-73

CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs didn't take their first lead until over a minute into the overtime period but stingy defense and clutch free throws lifted West Texas A&M to a 81-73 Lone Star Conference victory over the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
 
Hollie Stalder led the way for the Lady Buffs as the sophomore guard went 6-of-15 from the floor including 3-of-5 from deep and 6-of-6 from the free throw line for a team-high 21 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Nyalam Thabach (14 points, 11 rebounds) and Karley Motschenbacher (12 points, 10 rebounds) both finished the game with double-double while Kyla Kane (13) and Grace Alvarez (12) joined them in double-figures.
 
The Lady Buffs finished the night going 25-of-57 (43.9%) from the field including 7-of-22 (31.8%) from behind the arc and 24-of-32 (75%) from the free throw line to go along with 43 rebounbs (nine offensive, 34 defensive), 13 assists, 23 turnovers, 10 steals and no blocks.
 
UAFS was led by Ponca City, Oklahoma product Baylee Fincher who went 5-of-18 from the floor including 1-of-7 from deep and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe with 15 points to go along with three boards, two assists and four steals. The Lions went 28-of-73 (38.4%) from the field including 4-of-23 (17.4%) from deep and 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the line to go along with 39 rebounds, 13 assists, 21 turnovers, 14 steals and a block.
 
The Lady Buffs close out their road trip on Saturday afternoon as the make their way to Edmond, Oklahoma to take on the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in LSC action with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m. at the Payne Athletic Center.
