CANYON, Texas – Facing off against the 17
th-ranked Dallas Baptist Patriots, the West Texas A&M women's soccer team couldn't overcome a pair of first-half goals as the Patriots won the Lone Star Conference matchup, 2-0. The loss drops the Lady Buffs to 1-4-4 overall and 0-2-2 in conference play.
The game started slow as neither team secured possession. Nearly eight minutes into the game, Dallas Baptist registered the game's first shot as Madison Parks sent a shot over the bar. A few minutes later,
Reagan Heelan converted her first save of the afternoon off Kaleigh Naizer's attempt. WT held DBU off the scoreboard until the 24
th minute when Taylor Tufts found Sophia Schrock for the Patriots' first goal of the day. Four minutes later, Tufts found Schrock once again off a corner kick. Tufts set an in-swinging ball to the center of the box where Schrock headed the ball into the back of the net. DBU continued to apply pressure, but the Lady Buffs kept the difference at two.
After halftime, the Patriots threatened to add to their advantage in the 56
th minute when Schrock headed a shot towards Heelan. Heelan leapt into the air and pushed the attempt over the bar, ending the scoring threat. The Lady Buff defense caught a break in the 66
th minute when DBU found a wide-open Michelle Gonzalez. As Heelan came off her line, Gonzalez maneuvered around Heelan and sent a ball to the front of the goal. Angelina Olmos chipped the ball but watched the ball sail over the bar. Heelan replicated her save again with nine minutes to play as Tufts sent a shot into the top corner when Heelan pushed the ball wide. Despite a start difference in shots, the Lady Buffs kept the Patriots scoreless in the second half.
WT remains at home for a 7 p.m. kickoff with Lubbock Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Wednesday's match will serve as Youth Soccer Night for all fans.
