ALAMOSA, Colo. – The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team defeated the Adams State Grizzlies 3-0 at the ASU Soccer Field on Sunday. The Lady Buffs moved to 2-0 on the season with the victory while Adams State moved to 0-2.
WT scored early in the game and never looked back. The scoring started in the fourth minute following a takeaway in the midfield.
Asha James found space inside the Grizzlies box. As the Adams State defenders closed in, James centered the ball to
Maria-Frances Serrant who put it away. The Lady Buffs continued to keep the pressure on the Grizzlies, placing four of their eight shots on goal.
In the second half, Serrant and James connected again in the 63
rd minute. On this goal, Serrant passed to James outside the box. With the goalkeeper coming off her line, James slipped it into the far corner for a 2-0 lead. The Lady Buffs found their third and final goal in the 78
th minute. In similar fashion to Serrant's goal,
Maliyah Mendoza centered a ball into the box for
Nicole Gray. Gray finished off her first collegiate goal with a single touch to cap the WT scoring on the day.
Reagan Heelan posted five saves on six shots faced in her 86 minutes of play.
Nadia Reyna closed out the shutout for the Lady Buffs with a pair of saves.
The Lady Buffs return to The Pitch on Friday for a matchup with Fort Lewis. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
