CANYON, Texas – The No. 6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M rolled past Texas A&M International in Lone Star Conference action as they defeated the Dustdevils 6-1 and 10-4 on Friday night.
The Lady Buffs return to Schaeffer Park for their sixth Top 25 matchup of the season on March 20. WT will face No. 9 Texas A&M-Kingsville with first pitch set for 1 p.m. CT of Sunday's doubleheader.

The Lady Buffs opened scoring with a pair of runs led by
Diana Murtha's home run in center field. With two outs,
Ruby Salzman battled through a 10-pitch at bat to walk to first to bring Murtha to the plate. The junior third baseman unloaded on a 3-2 count with her ninth homer of the season for WT to take a 2-0 lead.
Victoria Gon led off with a single past the mound to land on base for the Dustdevils but the defense locked in to shut down the threat 1-2-3. WT doubled its lead in the second as
Sydney Greeson singled into center before
Megan Guericke launched her second homer of the year to add a couple of runs to the board.
In the third, Salzman and Murtha hit back-to-back singles to move into scoring position. Sophomore
Gabriella Valforte doubled into left field to score Salzman and Murtha to make it 6-0. The Dustdevils ended the shutout with Hannah Reile's sacrifice fly into center but the Lady Buffs held on to take the series opener.
Murtha led at the plate going 2-for 3 with two RBI and two runs followed by Valforte and Guericke who each had two RBI.
Emilee Wilson (5-2) was rewarded the victory after entering the game in the fourth inning allowing just three hits with the lone run (earned) with three strikeouts and one walk while
Heidi Vortherms earned the start. Darrian Smith received the loss to move to 7-7 on the season, allowing six runs (six earned) on six hits with five strikeouts.

With one out,
Brittni Rufus tagged one to the board in favor of the Lady Buffs as the sophomore sent one deep and out into left center take a 1-0 lead. WT kept the bats alive in the second inning as
Shyanne Sanchez hit a two-run double down the left field line before Rufus' hit to mound put the Lady Buffs ahead, 5-0.
The Dustdevils threatened the lead in the lead in the third as Hannah Reile hit a 3-run double into right field to bring the score within one.
Diana Murtha launched her 10
th home run into center to get a two of runs back before the Lady Buffs capitalized on a pair of errors to lead 10-4 at the end of the sixth.
Emma Parrish (2-1) earned the victory on the mound after shutting down the Dustdevils offense in the fourth with
Heidi Vortherms earning the start. Victoria Gonzalez (0-5) recorded her fifth loss allowing six runs (six earned) on six hits through four complete innings.
