West Texas A&M Athletics Announces the Establishment of New Track & Field Scholarship

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Athletics announced the establishment of the Thomas Kelly Brown Memorial Track & Field Scholarship on Friday afternoon. The scholarship will be awarded to a student-athlete each year who is actively participating in either men's or women's track and field at WT.

This scholarship honors the late Thomas Kelly Brown of Canadian, Texas. Tom was just 18 years old when he went missing on Thanksgiving Day in 2016 before his remains were found in January of 2019.  He was senior who would have graduated from Canadian High School in May of 2017 and to this day, no answers have been found as to why or how he went missing.

The scholarship was created to not only honor Tom but also to pay tribute to all missing children and teens. By establishing this scholarship, he will forever be remembered by friends and family members. His father, Kelly Brown, has become a regular at the WT track meets and has been around the country as a "starter" from middle school meets to the highest levels of collegiate track and field. The Brown family's mission is to carry on Tom's legacy so his light will forever shine bright.

The Thomas Kelly Brown Memorial Track Scholarship is a living memorial that will continue to provide support for track and field student-athletes in perpetuity, meaning Tom's legacy will live on forever. The scholarship can continue to grow and increase the impact of Tom's legacy.
