Wise Scores 33 to Lead Buffs to Victory Over Oklahoma Christian, 106-81

CANYON, Texas – Junior guard Larry Wise dropped a career-high 33 in Saturday's game as the No. 25 Buffs of West Texas A&M defeated Oklahoma Christian, 106-81, in front of their home crowd.  WT improved to 4-2 on the season, going undefeated in the Lone Star Conference opening weekend while the Eagles moved to 4-3 (0-2 LSC). 
 
The Leaders
Four players reached double figure scoring led by the Waxahachie native with a career- and WT season-high 33 to go along with two assists and a rebound. Wise went 11-for-17 from the field, 2-for-4 from the deep and 9-for-8 at the charity stripe while Zach Toussaint scored 17 followed by Julius Brown (16) and Ryland Holt (11). Brown and Holt led the defense bringing down five boards each with Holt picking off a season-high five steals and Brown had four assists. 
 
How It Happened
The Buffs put the foot on the gas early in the first half, jumping out to a double figure lead with Larry Wise's jump at the 12:56 mark, 17-6. WT's lead would get as high as 22 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half when Julius Brown posted four straight points on the board to make it a 33-11 game. 
 
Ryland Holt collected another successful run for the Buffs as the Gibson City, Ill. product sank four straight at the charity stripe. With one second left on the clock, OC's DJ Walter weaved through the Buffs defense to cut the lead down to 12, 50-38, at halftime. 
 
Wise was leading the Buffs offense at the half with the junior posting 17 points in just 15 minutes of action while Brown collected four rebounds along with Holt's four steals. 
 
WT picked up where they left off, pushing the lead back out to 20 with a 3-pointer from junior Zach Toussaint. After drawing the foul under the basket, freshman Brock Mishak went 2-for-2 at the free throw line to give the Buffs their second 100-point game of the season and first against the Eagles in the series' history. 
 
The Stats
WT shot a season-high 53.3% (32-for-60) from the field, going 29-for-34 (85.3%) at the free throw line with a season-high 13 3-pointers (52.0%) along with 26 points coming off the bench. The Buffs had 33 rebounds, 14 assists, 10 steals and one block from Holt. 
 
The Eagles shot 53.8% (28-for-52) from the floor, 41.7% (5-for-12) from the three, and 83.3% (20-for-24) from the charity stripe while grabbing 26 boards, eight assists, six steals and two blocks from Antonio Gordon. Nine players scored for the Eagles led by Drew Tennial with 28 points while Gordon had a game-high seven rebounds. 
 
Up Next 
The Buffs hit the road next weekend, Dec. 8-10, when they travel to south to face Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. Following the weekend at the opposing A&M schools, WT will compete in the South Point Hotel Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. On Dec. 18-19.
