CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M broke in BritKare Court with a pair of victories on the opening day of the season, defeating Adams State 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 18-25, 25-22) before sweeping past Fort Lewis (25-14, 25-17, 25-11) on Friday Night.

WT (2-0, 0-0 LSC) hit .424 on the day led by outside hitter
Torrey Miller and middle blocker
Kayla Elliott with 26 and 21 kills while
Blair Moreland paced the offense with 31 assists.
Chandler Vogel totaled 22 digs to bring her career total to 2,148 which is just two short from ranking third on the all-time career list. Â

West Texas A&M 3, Adams State 1 (25-15, 25-15, 18-25, 25-22)

After back-and-forth action, the Lady Buffs used a 10-2 run to jet out to a fast set one victory before taking set two 25-15 to look for an opening match sweep.  Adams State bring the match within one after coming back to defeat the WT in the third set but the Lady Buffs would take a 6-0 run to secure 3-1 victory.Â

WT totaled 10 blocks against the Grizzlies while hiting .252 with 43 kills led by Elliott 14 on 24 swings including three service aces. Â

West Texas A&M 3, Fort Lewis 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-11)

Miller would lead the way for the Lady Buffs offense with 14 kills on 27 swings with one attack error to hit .481 while
Kayla Elliott hit .667 with seven kills.
Marjani Stanfill made her collegiate debut with two blocks while
Ashlyn Vinyard registered five kills.Â

The Lady Buffs totaled 44 kills to hit .419 as a team in the second match of the season while Fort Lewis registered 24 at .141.  WT had 38 assists and four blocks including 11 services aces led by
Abi Nash and Elliott with four each.Â

WT concludes the BritKare Lady Buff Classic on Saturday with matchups against Southwestern State and UAFS.  The Lady Buffs take on SWOSU at 11:30 a.m. before going head-to-head with the Lone Star Conference foe at 4:30 p.m. at WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
