CANYON, Texas – Hannah Kelley-Lusk scored the second hat trick of her career on Saturday afternoon but it wasn't enough as West Texas A&M fell 5-4 to No. 17 Dallas Baptist at The Pitch in Canyon. The loss drops the Lady Buffs to 5-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Lady Buffs had the first three shots of the game before DBU came within inches of scoring in the 20
th minute when Ashley Merrill hit the crossbar.
Kelley-Lusk opened the scoring in the 38
th minute after beating the keeper to the far post on a breakaway. Emily Avilia was credited with the assist after putting a through ball where only Kelley-Lusk could get to it and score.
The senior striker would double the lead three minutes later with one of the best goals in her career.
Jessica Diaz delivered the ball over the top and Kelley-Lusk one-timed it into the back of the net.
The opening 10 minutes of the second half featured four goals including Kelley-Lusk's third of the game. DBU scored in the 48
th minute on a nice cross from Jenna Patterson. Michelle Gonzalez tied the game in the 48
th minute on a strike from distance.
Kelley-Lusk would become the third Lady Buff to record multiple hat tricks in a career in the 50
th minute after a nice assist from
Asha James. DBU's Patterson tied the game in the 55
th on an assist from Abigail Olmos.
The Lady Buffs would go down a goal in the 70
th minute when DBU's Madison Smiley got on the end of a through ball and scored. It was a 4-4 game 10 minutes later on James' sixth goal of the season after the Patriots were unable to clear the ball and Orozco pushed the ball into the path of James, who willed the ball across the line.
DBU would score the game-winner in the 86
th minute on a set piece.
The Lady Buffs continue their three-game home stand on Saturday, Oct. 2, when they host Texas A&M-Commerce. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
