CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M scored at will in Saturday's 9-0 victory over Adams State on Saturday afternoon at The Pitch. Seven different Lady Buffs found the back of the net as WT improved to 3-1-0 on the season and 6-1-0 all-time against the Grizzlies.
Reagan Matacale opened the scoring in the 3
rd minute as the freshman scored directly from a corner kick. She caught the Grizzlies off guard and placed the left-footed inswinger into the back of the net.
Asha James would score the second time in as many games with another left-footed strike in the 14
th minute to make it 2-0.
Emily Avila added another in the 27
th minute on a free kick from 25 yards out. The junior made no mistake as she rocketed the ball into the upper right corner of the netting.
Hannah Kelley-Lusk got her fourth of the season a minute later with
Maliyah Mendoza picking up the assist.
Jessica Diaz would make it a five-goal advantage before the halftime with a long-distance strike.
The Grizzlies had the momentum out of halftime forcing two saves from newly inserted goalkeeper
Daniela Estrada. WT would erase that momentum in the 60
th minute on a goal Mendoza, her second of the season. James would add a second in the 65
th minute.
Viviana Gomez would finish the scoring for the Lady Buffs with a pair of goals in her collegiate debut.
Damaris Cruz would get credited with the assist on the first goal in the 88
th minute before the Amarillo native scored in the final minute of the game.
Kelley-Lusk finished with a game-high six shots with Mendoza chipping in five.
Reagan Heelan picked up the win making two saves in the first half.
The Lady Buffs finish their three-game home stand on Sunday, Sept. 19, against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
