Bats Come Alive as Lady Buffs Force Winner-Take-All Game Three

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 12 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M came back to defeat No. 24 Biola with a 7-4 decision in game two of the National Championship series to force a winner-takes-all game set for 11 a.m. CT at the Regency Athletics Complex.

After a scoreless first inning, freshman Madison Johnson put the Lady Buffs on the board for the first time in the series as she launched her ninth collegiate home run out into left field.

BU's Abie Nowak hit through the right side to even the score before the Eagles took the lead with a groundout to the shortstop, scoring the runner from third.  WT looked to respond in the bottom frame when Hailey Neira led off with a single before advancing to third on a deep fly ball by Shanna McBroom and wild pitch but was left stranded as Erica Vessels lined out to first.

The Lady Buffs found their momentum in the fourth as they took control of the game, scoring five runs on three hits.  With runners on first and third, designated player Sydney Greeson drove the first pitch she faced deep and out into left to give WT the go-ahead lead. McBroom added to the Lady Buffs score as the NFCA Catcher of the Year sent her 36th career home run into right field to make it 6-2.

Vessels smoked a double into left center before advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Alyx Cordell until coming home on a deep fly ball by Gabriella Valforte

Biola would threaten the Lady Buffs lead with back-to-back doubles in the seventh to bring the score within three, but Emilee Wilson forced a fly ball to center field to capture the 7-4 victory.

The Lady Buffs registered seven hits against Biola with seven RBI.  Johnson went 2-for-2 to lead the Lady Buffs with two runs while Greeson earned three RBI.

Freshman Halle Lytal (4-0) was rewarded the victory allowing four runs (four earned) on 11 hits with one walk through 6.2 innings while Wilson received the save.
