Seven Run Inning Lifts No. 12 West Texas A&M Past No. 18 Saint Anselm

DENVER, Colo. –  The No. 12 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat No. 18 Saint Anselm, 9-3, with the help of a seven run inning.

Saint Anselm struck first with two runs in the first with an RBI double down the left field line before a single through the left side doubled their lead.

The Lady Buffs took control of the game in the third scoring seven runs on six hits.  After being hit by a pitch, Julie Guzman advanced to third on a wild pitch before Hailey Neira singled into left to put runners on first and third.  Another hit by pitch loaded the bases to bring All-American Ruby Salzman to the plate.  The Northridge, Calif. native tapped the ball into centerfield to score Guzman before a sacrifice fly by Erica Vessels leveled the score at two.

Senior shortstop Alyx Cordell hit just out of the range of the shortstop to bring in Salzman for the go-ahead run.  Two consecutive singles by Gabriella Valforte and Madison Johnson gave WT a 4-2 lead before Guzman hit a bases clearing double into left center to extend the lead to five.

WT added to their lead as Salzman hit a two-run double into right field before the Hawks brought the game within six with a solo home run into left center.  The Lady Buffs defense would end the threat securing a 9-3 victory, handing the Hawks their sixth loss of the season.

The Lady Buffs outhit the Hawks 11-6 as seven players registered hits, including four against the D2CCA Pitcher of the Year.  McBroom and Johnson each went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Buffs while Guzman tied her season-high with three RBI.

Kyra Lair (23-5) was rewarded the victory allowing two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and through five complete innings while Emilee Wilson completed the game allowing the final run.

The Lady Buffs continue their run in the winner's bracket as they play tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. CT at the Regency Athletics Complex with an opponent to be determined Saturday afternoon.
