Amanda Workman named Athletic Director at Sul Ross State

ALPINE, Texas - Sul Ross State University has announced that Amanda Workman has been hired as the University's new athletic director, only the second full time athletic director in school history.

Ms Workman previously served as Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations at West Texas A&M University. During her ten years of service there, she demonstrated a strong work ethic and consistent ability to accomplish projects important to both the institution and the community at large.

Ms Workman steered West Texas A&M through much of their growth over the past decade. She led their fundraising efforts in completing a new stadium and several expansions in addition to working with students and coaches.

"I am incredibly honored and humbled by this opportunity," said Workman. "What a privilege it is to join the Lobo Athletics family and serve the student-athletes, coaches and administrators of Sul Ross. I'm grateful to West Texas A&M for preparing me in in so many ways and Michael McBroom for helping me get to this opportunity."

Workman is originally from Post, Texas. She is the first in her family to finish college, receiving her bachelor's (2006) and master's degrees (2009) in psychology from WTAMU.

"I fell in love with athletics cheering on the sidelines of football games in Post, Texas," Workman added. "What a privilege it is to work in collegiate athletics all these years later. To my family, friends, educators, and mentors - thank you for supporting me and guiding me along the way. Without you, this opportunity would not be possible."

"We are excited to have Ms Workman join us at Sul Ross," said President Pete Gallego. "She is passionate about athletics and is committed to ensuring an all-around successful student-athlete. I'm also grateful to the selection committee for their diligence. They chose well!"

Ms Workman, too, thanked the members of the selection committee.  "Thank you to the committee and President Gallego for selecting me and trusting me to shape the future of Lobo Athletics. I look forward to meeting alumni, fans and the community of Alpine. Go Lobos!"
