CANYON, Texas – No. 3 West Texas A&M continued its hot start to the season with a 83-64 victory over Western Colorado on Friday night at the First United Bank Center. In the all-time series, the Buffs continue to stay perfect in Canyon over Western Colorado with their fourth victory at home as WT moves to 6-2.
Four players saw double-figure scoring led by
Zach Toussaint with 18 going 7-for-10 from the floor including three 3-pointers.
Julius Brown was the Buffs second leading scorer with 15 followed by
Larry Wise (12) and
Dalin Williams (11). Wise brought down a team-high seven rebounds with four coming on defense.
The Buffs showed some rest in the opening minutes of the game as the Mountaineers picked up a 6-2 lead. The two teams would go back-and-forth with neither team taking hold of a successful lead until a jumper by
Julius Brown ignited a 10-2 run for the Buffs as they went take the final lead change.
After drawing the foul on his driving layup,
Larry Wise would follow through at the free throw line to complete the three-point play putting the Buffs lead in the double-figures, 37-24.
Dalin Williams would add four straight points to the board for WT to lead 41-27 at the half.
WT led off the second half with a shot in the paint by
Zach Toussaint before the sophomore followed up with a fastbreak three to push the lead to out to 17. With six minutes left on the clock,
Julius Brown sank his only three of the night to give WT their largest lead of the game, 73-50.
The Buffs and Mountaineers finish the two-game set on Sunday, Nov. 14 at the First United Bank Center with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
