DALLAS, Texas – West Texas A&M saw their season come to an end on Friday night with a 3-1 loss in the Lone Star Conference Semifinals to the nationally-ranked 6
th DBU at the Patriot Soccer Field. The Lady Buffs finish the season 14-6-0 while top-seeded DBU advances to the championship match to face No. 6 seed Angelo State on Sunday, Nov. 14.
The Lady Buffs best chance for early scoring came in the 12
th-minute with a shot by
Emily Avila but was denied but the Patriots keeper Hailey Brown to leave WT off the board. DBU grabbed the go-ahead lead in the 22
nd minute after Gabrielle Heller found Jenna Patterson before the Patriots doubled their lead eight minutes later to make it 2-0 at the half.
The Patriots opened scoring in the second half with a goal by Delaney Schmidt with Summerlyn Heller credited the assist.
In the 80
th-minute
Reagan Matacale ended the shutout as the Lucas, Texas product fired her fifth goal of the season. The freshman spun around a defender to launch a shot from 20-yards out to put the Lady Buffs on the board.
WT would add pressure in the final 10 minutes but was unable to level the score to send the match into overtime.
DBU outshot the Lady Buffs 15-12 with each landing five on frame while Matacale had a match-high six shots.
Reagan Heelan finished with two saves, ending the season 9-5-0.
