CANYON, Texas – In his final regular season game at the First United Bank Center,
Jordan Collins scored a career-high. 20 points as No. 3 West Texas A&M defeated Cameron 105-68 on Saturday afternoon for their program record 20
thstraight win. The Buffs finish the regular season 29-1 overall and 21-1 in Lone Star Conference play earning the No. 1 seed in next week's LSC Tournament.
The game was tied at 4-4 three minutes into the game before WT went on a 12-0 run to bust the game wide open.
Joel Murray scored the opening four points of the run before
Eric Mosley and
Jon'il Fugett. connected from beyond the arc. Murray would finish the run with another jumper just inside the 3-point line.
The Buffs continued to score at will as the lead reached 21, 32-11, at 5:43 on a pair of free throws from Collins. The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes including 3-pointers from Collins and Toussaint. Grant would join the fun right before halftime with triple as WT lead by 23 at halftime, 52-29.
Nothing changed in the second half as WT went on 11-3 run in the opening five minutes to take the lead to 30. Points, 63-33. Toussaint got things going a few minutes later connecting from downtown on back-to-back possession to maintain the 30-point lead.
JT Warren hit a trio of 3-pointers with under 11 minutes remaining in the contest to push the lead to 39, 85-36, at 8:02. Collins's finished his scoring at 5:07 with his sixth 3-pointer to give the Buffs a game-high 40-point lead, 87-57. Gerber nailed the Buffs 20
th 3-pointer in the final 30 seconds marking the second time this season they have made over 20 threes in a single game.
Collins finished with aa game-high 20 points tying his career-best with six 3-pointers to go with five rebounds and three assists. Murray had 19 after going 9-of-12 from the floor with six assists. Grant had the FUBC on triple-double alert as the sophomore finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while Toussaint chipped in 15 points off the bench.
The Buffs will head to Frisco on Friday, March 7, to face the winner of the No. 8/No. 9 matchup in the LSC Quarterfinals. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Comerica Center.
