WT Basketball Tops #15 Tarleton State on Senior Day at the First United Bank Center, 74-65

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M finished the 2016-17 regular season in style on Saturday afternoon as they topped the rival #15 Texans of Tarleton State, 74-65 in front of over 2,000 fans at the First United Bank Center on Senior Day in Canyon. The Buffs moved to a perfect 14-0 inside of the FUBC as they improve to 24-7 (12-6 LSC) on the season while the Texans fall to 22-6 (13-5 LSC) overall.
 
The Buffs went 12-of-31 (38.7%) from the floor in the opening half including 6-of-17 (35.3%) from long range and 2-of-4 (50%) from the free throw line with 17 rebounds (three offensive, 14 defensive), eight assists, six turnovers, no blocks and three steals. David Chavlovich and Jordan Evans led the way with eight points each at the half followed by Ryan Quaid with seven and Joseph Prince with six while Evans grabbed five rebounds.
 
Tarleton State was led at the break by Anthony Davis who went 3-of-5 from the floor with eight points followed by Chantz Chambers with seven and Ridell Camidge with four to go along with four rebounds in the first 20 minutes of action. The Texans went 11-of-24 (45.8%) from the field including 2-of-10 (20%) from deep and 4-of-7 (57.1%) with 17 rebounds (two offensive, 15 defensive), six assists, eight turnovers, two blocks and three steals.
 
WT was led on the afternoon by Chavlovich who went 6-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-6 from deep to score 18 points followed by Quaid (15), Eric Golightly Jr. (11) and Prince (10) in double-figures while Evans grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. The Buffs went 26-of-57 (45.6%) from the floor including 10-of-28 (35.7%) from long range and 12-of-15 (80%) from the charity stripe with 33 rebounds (10 offensive, 23 defensive), 16 assists, 14 turnovers, one block and six steals.
 
The Texans finished the game 22-of-51 (43.1%) from the field including 5-of-19 (26.3%) from deep and 16-of-26 (61.5%) from the free throw line with 32 rebounds (10 offensive, 22 defensive), 12 assists, 13 turnovers, two blocks and seven steals. Chambers led the way offensively as the guard went 6-of-12 from the floor and 1-of-3 from deep with 16 points followed by Davis (15) and Deshawn Riddick (13) in double-figures while Romond Jenkins grabbed seven rebounds in the loss.
