Coach Lloyd Spotted Wolf begins his first season at West Texas A&M University, reuniting with Head Coach Mike Nesbitt. Prior to his arrival in Canyon, Spotted Wolf served as the Receiver’s Coach at Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, N.M., winning the 2015 New Mexico 6A State Championship with an undefeated 13-0 season. Before his two year run with The Storm, Spotted Wolf spent three seasons at Rio Rancho H.S., serving as the Varsity Assistant Head Coach, Co-Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach as well as teaching English. He was born and raised in Albuquerque, N.M., having graduated from La Cueva High School, where he was an All-District and Second-team All-City Center for the Bears. This will be his 20th season coaching.

Spotted Wolf went to Rio Rancho after having served two seasons as the Head Coach at Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and three seasons at Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas. Spotted Wolf joined Coach Nesbitt on the Blinn staff in 2006, heading up the offensive line for the National Championship team.

During this historic season, Spotted Wolf’s offensive line opened up the rushing lanes for RB Bernard Scott (Cincinnati Bengals) to lead the nation in rushing with 1,699 yards. In addition to the National Championship, the Buccaneers also won two SWJCFC Championships and played in two bowl games, The Pilgrim’s Pride Bowl, and the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl. Coach Spotted Wolf was on the staff that recruited Heisman Trophy winner and #1 Overall NFL Draft pick Cam Newton to Blinn.

Coach was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2007 and what an explosive offensive season it was. In 2007, the Bucs offense ranked 4th in the nation, amassing 4331yds and averaging 34.5 points/game. In Coach Spotted Wolf’s rookie season as a coordinator, the offense finished second in the nation in passing offense, totaling 2463yds and 22 TDs through the air. There was still some balance, as the Blinn offense also had 24 rushing TDs and nearly 1900yds on the ground. QB Terrence Cain set the all-time NJCAA record for completion percentage, 71.1%.

His experience includes stints in NCAA Division I, II and III, as well as high school programs. Before joining the Buccaneer staff, Spotted Wolf was the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach at NCAA D-II Oklahoma Panhandle State University. In addition to his football duties, he was also the Recruiting Coordinator, and a health, physical education and recreation instructor.

He is no stranger to championship-caliber football. For the 2003-2004 seasons, Spotted Wolf returned to his high school alma mater, La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, N.M., as an assistant, winning back-to-back 5A state football championships, amassing a 26-0 record. He was also a full-time English teacher.

Spotted Wolf was the offensive line coach/special teams coordinator for NCAA D-III University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which won the WIAC championship in 2001. He was also an assistant men’s and women’s track and field coach, and a kinesiology lecturer.

He spent three years on Rocky Long’s staff at the University of New Mexico (Division IA), working with the offensive line, specialists, and team academics. He worked with two Hula Bowl selections (place kicker and deep snapper) who both continued on to the NFL, as well as two all-conference linemen and two linemen who eventually went on to the NFL.

Coach Spotted Wolf has coached 37 collegiate All-Conference players, five All-Americans, and two Conference MVPs over his 20-year career. He has also coached at NCAA D-II Adams State College, Del Norte (Colo.) High School and Zuni (N.M.) High School.

He graduated from Adams State College with a double major in English and exercise physiology, and attained his master’s degree in sports administration from the University of New Mexico. He was a four-year letterman and three-year starter on the offensive line for the NCAA D-II Grizzlies, being named Academic-All Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Spotted Wolf is an active member of the American Football Coaches Association, serving on the AFCA Minority Issues Committee.

He is married to the former Ashley Klausmeyer, and they have a daughter, Elizabeth (5) and a son Rock (20-months).
