Marvin Self competed on the track & field team for the Buffs in 1975 and 1976 where he earned the Missouri Valley Conference Discus championship in 1975 with a throw of 167'8" and in 1976 with a throw of 162'6". 

He was named the WT Track Most Valuable Player in 1976 and has spent over 40 years in education as a principal, athletic director and coach.
